Spain is a dream destination for nature photographers. During this trip we aim our cameras at the Iberian lynx. A masterful combination led by a top guide!

Iberian lynx

Until recently, this was one of the rarest cats in the world. Thanks to the efforts of conservationists, the tides have turned and the populations are doing much better. It is going so well, in fact, that the chance of realizing  beautiful shots is very high. So high, that we can now offer this trip as a group tour! And this to the best photo hides in the world for this species. Sounds tantalizing, doesn’t it?

What makes this photography tour to Spain so special?

  • You hide with your camera in photo hides that are perfectly placed to capture the Iberian lynx.
  • STARLING ensures a carefree trip by arranging everything for you in advance: excursions and local guides, accommodation, transport and meals.
  • A total of 7 (!) full days in hides are on the program. We try to book the flights in such a way that we take a seat in the hides on the day of the outward journey and the day of the return journey.

An exclusive, sustainable and unique location for photographers

The photography huts are located on a private estate of no less than 3000 hectares. You are on average 600 meters above sea level and you will find a mosaic of cork and holm oaks, elms, vast fields and meadows. The estate is sustainably managed through the Iberian Lynx Life Project, in collaboration with the estate owner and the WWF. The nature on the estate is downright impressive. The icing on this fantastic cake is of course the photographable Iberian lynx!

If you wish, you can use other hides nearby. Here you can make nice ‘by-catches’ of red kite, steppe species and even Spanish imperial eagle.

The tour schedule is flexible and dependent on the weather, local conditions and observations.

departure day Brussels/Amsterdam - Madrid

Today we travel to our location for the coming days. Depending on the flights we will take place in the cabins in the evening!

16/08 - 21/08
Lynx hides

This trip is all about Iberian lynx. We will take place in the best huts available for this species. Several prize images of Iberian lynx have already been taken on this terrain. Who knows, you might make that one winning shot?!

22/08
Madrid - Brussels/Amsterdam

Today we travel back home. Depending on the flights, we will use the morning as best as possible.

Accommodation, transportation and flights

The accommodation is neat and tidy without too many frills. We have chosen a small-scale family hotel that can show the necessary flexibility. A single room is provided for each participant. If you wish to register as a couple or with friends and share a room, you can enjoy a discount of 120 euros per person. Please mention this clearly in the comments.

All local transport is of course included in the price!

The international flights to and from Madrid are not included in the price of this trip. With guaranteed departure, STARLING will propose suitable flights (from Charleroi, Brussels, Amsterdam or another airport of your choice). Count on 400 to 500 euros per person for your flights. You can also choose to arrange your own flights.

Climate, clothing and photography

The weather varies greatly during this time of year, with temperatures between 20 and 30 degrees and slightly cooler nights. Rain is of course possible, but you will usually be in a hut and will therefore stay dry.

We recommend that you wear black or dark-coloured clothing with long sleeves during the hut sessions, to prevent reflection and to remain completely unseen.

In addition to a good and sharp zoom lens (for example 16-85 mm), we recommend a telephoto lens with a minimum focal length of 400 mm for this photography trip to Spain. Sometimes it is useful to use a smaller (tele) zoom lens, for example if the birds are close by. If possible, take a tripod and a bean bag with you, so that you can choose on site.
